For sea adventurers and summer visitors. The Ossiacher See northeast of the city of Villach is the most varied lake in Carinthia. Peace and culture on the one hand, sport and events on the other. All kinds of water sports are tempting on the lake, the mountains are within reach for all hiking and biking fans. The Gerlitzen Alpe, which rises on the north bank of the Ossiacher See, is one of the most beautiful mountains in Austria. At Ossiacher See in summer the motto is: “Raise the curtain on Austria’s most musical lake!” Because this is also the venue for the international music festival “Carinthian Summer”.

You can also explore the hiking, climbing, paragliding and recreational paradise Gerlitzen Alpe at around 2,000 meters above sea level. Grandiose circular routes, powerful summit victories, rustic alpine huts, exciting Nordic walking trails, rapid descents when tubing the slopes and much more are available to you on one of the most beautiful mountains in Austria. Breathtaking panoramic view included. Here you will also find over 160 exciting forest high rope stations of all levels of difficulty in the Gerlitzen Adventure Park. Furthermore, the climbing forest at Ossiacher See offers a beech forest for the whole family with a forest roller coaster “Fly-Line”, treetop path, suspension bridges and much more on over 30,000 m².
On the move
The family-friendly Slow Trail leads through the species-rich nature, landscape and European protected area of the Tiebel estuary and offers insights into the habitat of around 100 different bird species, butterflies, bats and beavers. With the more demanding Ossiacher See Trail, you can walk around the lake in a 2-day stage. A detour to Finsterbach waterfalls is recommended.

Carinthischer summer
The Carinthian Summer has been attracting artists and music enthusiasts from all over the world to Carinthia from the beginning of July to the end of August since 1969. Enjoy classical music, jazz and crossover in impressive venues such as the Ossiach Abbey. A church opera has also been an integral part of the series of events since 1974.
Domenig stone house
During the summer months, the famous stone house by the architect Günther Domenig in Steindorf on the Ossiacher See can be visited. It stands out due to its unique shape and is supposed to reflect the landscape of the mountains.
Handicraft market Ossiach
In mid-August, thousands are invited to the handicraft market in Ossiach. 130 artists from over ten nations offer their works made of ceramics, glass, wood, metal, leather, textiles and pictures. The many musicians, street performers and showmen ensure an extraordinary flair during the up to five market days.

A typical Carinthian dish is always on the menu at the landlord or in the restaurant: the cheese noodles.
Reindling
You cannot avoid the original Carinthian Reindling. The sweet dessert is the tip for all pastry fans.

Despite the ham in the name, this dessert has nothing to do with meat. The dish can be compared to pancakes – only much thinner, finer and usually filled with apricot jam.

The gastronomy around the lake offers fresh fish specialties. A pleasure!
